A gentle practice for the first hour of your day
Most mornings are decided before we wake up. The Quiet Hour is a twenty-one day practice for reclaiming the first hour of the day — not to achieve more, but to arrive before the demands do. Each morning has a short reading, a breathing cue, and one small instruction you can finish before the kettle boils.

The first hour of the day is the only hour that has not been spoken for.
By nine o'clock most of us are already answering. The inbox is a question, the news is a question, the family is a question. And we answer, answer, answer, until the answering feels like who we are.
The quiet hour is an experiment in not answering yet. Not forever — just for one hour, or even fifteen minutes, before the questions arrive.
Try this tomorrow. Before you reach for a screen, sit somewhere with a door between you and the rest of the house. Put both feet on the floor. Take three breaths, each one slightly longer than the last, and notice one thing in the room that you did not arrange.
That is the whole practice. It is unimpressive on purpose. What changes is not the hour itself; it is what you remember about yourself for the rest of the day.
