Wonder is not rare. It is just unobserved.
Yesterday I spent four minutes looking at the surface of a cup of tea. I want to tell you it was a spiritual experience. It was mostly just tea. But something in the four minutes was not tea at all — it was the simple fact of not moving on.
Our days are made of transitions we perform without noticing: from bed to kettle, kettle to desk, desk to door. Any one of them can become a page.
Today's noticing: the temperature of the air on the back of your hands. Notice it twice. Once on purpose, and once later, when you have forgotten this page.
The second time is the practice.
